Hans Riffel was the lover of Jean Locke.  He was the instituter of the Riffel Rule that causes adults to forget about the powers of the keys.  He wrote two entries in the Guide to the Known Keys: the Angel Key and the Hercules Key. From those entries, it is known that he was physically disabled, and initially a Nazi spy sent to infiltrate the Locke family in the hope of procuring their secrets for the Reich, but his and Jean's growing love caused him to turn against his superiors.
