Clockworks is the fifth volume of Locke & Key. It began with Locke & Key: Clockworks #1 on July 20, 2011, and ended with Locke & Key: Clockworks #6 on May 16, 2012.

Clockworks expands on the history of the Keys, the Tamers of the Tempest (first shown in Locke & Key: Head Games #1), and Dodge.

It features the first true appearances of the remaining Tamers of the Tempest, including the unpossessed Lucas Caravaggio, Kim Topher, and Mark Cho. Rendell Locke, Ellie Whedon, and Erin Voss had all been featured previously.

The majority of the volume takes place in flashbacks, with only two scenes happening "now": one extended scene of Tyler and Kinsey Locke using the Timeshift Key to travel back to 1775 and then to 1988, and the final scene of the volume where the siblings return to their rooms after learning their father's history. There are also some near-present scenes set "four days ago", leading up to the discovery of the Timeshift Key.

NotesEdit

  • The covers of Clockworks mirror each other:
    • No. 1 and #6, #2 and #5; and #3 and #4 each have characters in the same stances as each other.
  • This is the first volume in the series not to introduce any new keys (the Timeshift Key briefly appeared in Head Games #2).
